Shawn Zargarian and his son Vaughn reflect on their journey through high school basketball amid challenges. Vaughn, now a senior averaging 36.1 points per game, recalls his father's tough coaching methods, which he learned to appreciate over time. As they share this special season together, they also honor the memory of Vaughn's late mother, Nadine, emphasizing their close relationship without her. The Zargarians represent a larger trend among Armenian athletes who are excelling in basketball, creating a sense of pride in the community.
There were some car rides and home dinner conversations that weren't very great. I was, 'Wow, this is really hard. He's always yelling at me.' I started to grow up and understand what he meant. If you trust the process, the benefits are so much better.
That's what we do now. Parents grow up fans of soccer and navigate toward basketball.
