'Significant bluff collapse' sends steps, rocks tumbling to the sand in Laguna Beach

On Friday morning, a significant bluff collapse occurred in Laguna Beach, dropping around 500 cubic yards of material onto the beach and damaging private stairs. Fortunately, no injuries or structural damages to homes were reported, leading officials to cordon off the area. A search-and-rescue dog was used to ensure no individuals were trapped under debris, and nearby homes were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. Laguna Beach Fire Chief emphasized the importance of public safety while assessments were being conducted by officials and a geologist.
"This was a significant bluff collapse, and we responded with an abundance of caution to ensure no one was in harm's way," Laguna Beach Fire Chief Niko King stated.
A search-and-rescue dog was brought out to check the debris and make sure no one was caught in the slide, and three nearby homes were temporarily evacuated.
