Southern California is set to experience a significant shift in weather as several cold, wet storms approach after a brief warm spell. Forecasters from the National Weather Service indicate that below-average temperatures will likely persist through mid-March. The Los Angeles area is expected to see some rain starting Saturday, peaking on Sunday and into Monday with modest accumulation. This weather change follows a heat wave where temperatures soared to record highs earlier in the week.
"We're going to be really right back in winter here the next couple of days with two or three pretty cold low-pressure systems coming," said Mike Wofford, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Oxnard.
The National Weather Service said Southern California could see a chance of rain beginning Saturday, with the Los Angeles area getting its best shot Sunday and into Monday.
