The computer-aided dispatch program for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department crashed on New Year's Eve, rendering patrol car computers inoperable as deputies operated solely by radio.
"It's our own little Y2K," said a deputy, emphasizing the operational challenges today as they need to manually record call details instead of using their computers.
Despite the system failure, officials assured the public that "we are still responding to calls for service and they are being tracked manually at the station level."
The department confirmed that while deputies couldn't use the CAD system, their body-worn cameras and emails were functioning properly, allowing them to continue performing their duties.
