A 40-year-old man was arrested for stealing military equipment, including three Humvees, from the Army Reserve Center in Tustin. The break-in occurred on January 8, where the suspect gained access to storage and vehicles by cutting a fence. Police recovered two Humvees shortly after, with the third and additional gear recovered days later during a warrant search. This incident is part of a troubling trend of military vehicle thefts in California, with several similar cases occurring in recent years.
On Jan. 8, sometime between 8 and 11:30 p.m., at least one individual entered a storage warehouse at the reserve center on Red Hill Avenue, ransacked storage lockers and cut a fence to access a military vehicle parking lot.
Three days after the theft, police recovered two of the Humvees - one in Santa Ana and the other in Orange. The third vehicle and equipment were recovered on Jan. 16.
