Cellphone service was proving a challenge in Malibu, where the Franklin fire was burning Tuesday, as some cell towers were burned, affecting service access.
More than 40,000 customers had their electricity cut for those planned shutoffs due to high winds across the region, particularly impacting areas in Los Angeles County.
Officials had been preparing for intense Santa Ana winds, predicting that more than 350,000 customers might lose power amid the planned safety shutoffs.
David Eisenhauer, a spokesperson for Southern California Edison, noted that outages occurred for firefighter safety and due to widespread public safety power cut efforts.
