Lightning bolts by the hundreds, 'constant' thunder: Rare thunderstorms hit SoCal Monday

"They were more intense than your normal thunderstorms, for sure," said Alex Tardy, a National Weather Service meteorologist in San Diego.
"They didn't have a lot of rain, but they certainly had a lot of lightning and a lot of ice, or hail. ... The lightning and the hail [were] the dominant feature in these storms."
