LA Marathon starts at Dodger Stadium, ends in photo finish
"If you're having a tough day and want to end your race before 26.2, you can choose to take the turn at Mile 18 and head into the finish line early. You do not need to notify anyone of your decision and can opt to take this route at any time. This option is available for this year only."
"We would love to see the marathon start at Dodger Stadium and finish at the ocean. From the stadium to the sea. The vision is to incorporate the great icons of L.A. - Hollywood, Beverly Hills, the ocean - so that people from all over the world want to come and run a race that is totally unique."
The 41st Los Angeles Marathon took place Sunday with the closest finish in the race's 41-year history. Nathan Martin won the men's race in 2:11:16, narrowly beating Michael Kimani Kamau after a strong final stretch. Prisca Cherono won the women's race with a time of 2:25:20. The race started at Dodger Stadium and finished at Century City, a route change from the previous "Stadium to the Sea" course due to increased costs from Santa Monica. The McCourt Foundation, a non-profit focused on neurological diseases run by former Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, organizes the annual event. Notably, organizers introduced a controversial policy allowing runners to finish at mile 18 and receive medals, available only for this year.
