Hyeseong Kim removed from Dodgers roster amid recent slump
Santiago Espinal returned to the Dodgers four days after being designated for assignment, with MLB transactions showing he cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A, though he instead became a free agent and signed a new Dodgers contract. Kiké Hernández made only four at-bats before returning to the injured list with a left oblique strain, affecting roster timing. Hyeseong Kim was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to the Dodgers’ series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies. After Hernández’s left oblique injury, Alex Freeland was reportedly en route as the team considered a move, but Hernández’s injury led to keeping Kim and Freeland on the roster. When Teoscar Hernández suffered a left hamstring strain, Ryan Ward joined the team, Kim played left field, and manager Dave Roberts indicated Kim could be optioned there going forward. Kim hit .259/.323/.328 with three doubles, one triple, one home run, and 11 RBI in 43 games earlier in the season, but slumped over the prior 15 games.
