Rex Heuermann, a 62-year-old architect, pleaded guilty to eight counts of murder for the deaths of women found between 1993 and 2010. Initially charged with four murders, he admitted to killing additional victims, including Karen Vergata. Heuermann confessed to strangling the women and dismembering two of them. He has been held without bail for nearly three years and will cooperate with the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit as part of a deal. His defense attorney mentioned the significance of a judge's ruling on trial success likelihood.
