"“Slow program for Tommy. Kind of some soreness, some residual soreness,” Roberts said earlier this week. “So we kind of backed him off a little bit. Nothing too alarming, but he's just on a slower program.” Roberts' comments came just over one week after he revealed Edman previously dealt with soreness upon increasing the intensity of his running. It’s not clear if Edman dealt with more ankle trouble upon trying to advance in his running program, or if his current status is an extension of Roberts' prior remarks."
Charlie Barnes was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers from the Chicago Cubs. Tommy Edman was transferred to the 60-day injured list to make room for Barnes on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster. Barnes had been designated for assignment by the Cubs on May 6 after the Cubs selected Trent Thorton’s contract. Barnes appeared in one game for Chicago, allowing four runs over three innings on April 13, and moved between the majors and Triple-A Iowa multiple times. Barnes debuted in MLB with the Minnesota Twins in 2021 and has spent six minor league seasons primarily as a starter. This year, he went 3-1 with a 3.04 ERA and 1.20 WHIP for Iowa. Edman began the season on the 10-day injured list after right ankle surgery and is now on a slower recovery program due to residual soreness.
