Column: Chickens, cats, dogs, goldfish: From the front lines of the fires, stories of survival
Briefly

On January 8, during the devastating Eaton fire, Anthony Ruffin and Jonni Miller managed to evacuate their home with their dog and one cat but lost track of their other cat, Mr. Thelma. After discovering their home destroyed, they were devastated about their missing pet. Upon their return on January 20, they were surprised to hear Mr. Thelma's faint meow and found him unharmed, having escaped during the chaos. They had initially misidentified the cat's gender, but affectionately continued to call him Mr. Thelma.
"By the time we got to the back, I heard this very faint meowing. Up popped Thelma, jumping over a concrete wall from an adjacent property, like nothing had happened."
"We were slowly walking through the property and kind of assessing what had happened, and yelling for Thelma."
