Atlanta issues warnings after chemical plant fire with smoke visible miles away
Briefly

The fire ignited when a sprinkler head malfunctioned around 5am Sunday at the BioLab plant in Conyers, causing water to mix with a water-reactive chemical and producing a plume of chemicals. According to Rockdale County fire chief Marian McDaniel, employees were present at the plant during the incident, but fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far. The billowing smoke was visible from as far as 30 miles away at Atlanta's international airport.
We are actively responding to an occurrence at our facility in Conyers, Georgia," a representative from BioLab stated. The company confirmed that its employees were accounted for and that there were no reported injuries. McDaniel added, 'Once we can get that chemical out of the building and allow it to burn off we'll be in a much better shape,' highlighting a hope for resolution as firefighters addressed the situation.
