During an SXSW panel, Rumman Chowdhury voiced her concerns about Elon Musk’s management style and its parallels with actions in U.S. federal agencies. She emphasized that Musk's cuts were leading to staff shortages that could compromise cybersecurity. Chowdhury reflected on her experience at Twitter during Musk's leadership, noting how significant turnover and Musk's influence had negatively affected the company's culture. The message was clear: the management style at Twitter, while impactful, pales in comparison to the potential ramifications for government institutions.
When your funding is frozen and you don't know if you're gonna be fired... still have to do your job, right? The lights have to be kept on.
Musk and DOGE...have rushed to cut staff across U.S. federal agencies, in some cases in ways that compromise cybersecurity.
So we're talking a big chunk of the company being just gone...the looming shadow of [Musk's] existence completely killed the culture of Twitter.
It's scary to see that happening to the U.S. government...Twitter was a company, yes...but it's not the same as a government.
