Woman dies in Sligo crash as Tipperary woman killed after being struck by car named locally
"It's very sad for her family. It's the loss of a mother. I always considered losing a mother as terrible - losing any parent or anybody - but losing a mother is terrible to a family. We hear of road accidents, but we always hear of them further away - it brings it home to you about how badly road accidents affect people."
"A woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to Sligo University Hospital, where a post‑mortem will take place. The coroner has been notified. The road, which was closed for forensic examination, has since reopened. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses."
Three separate fatal road collisions occurred in Ireland over the weekend. The first incident happened at 3:30am involving a woman who was pronounced dead at the scene, a man in his 50s in critical condition, a driver in his 20s, and a teenage boy with non-life-threatening injuries. In Co Tipperary on Sunday, Gabrielle O'Donoghue, a young mother, was struck by a car on the R502 and pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind a young son. A third collision occurred Saturday evening in Dublin on Powerstown Road, resulting in a fatality. Gardaí have closed roads for forensic examination and are appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage from all incidents.
