The Silvertown Tunnel, connecting Silvertown and the Greenwich Peninsula, is set to alleviate congestion at the Blackwall Tunnel and offer a new river crossing during maintenance periods. Starting from its opening, tolls will apply to both tunnels, but low-income residents can receive a 50% discount. Additionally, TfL will enhance public transport options with express bus services and cycle shuttles. Users must register for Auto Pay to benefit from discounts, with special considerations for charities and small businesses. The initiative aims to provide improved public transport connections and support local communities.
Councillor Averil Lekau emphasized, 'TfL's Silvertown Tunnel is nearly open. We want to make sure our residents and businesses benefit from the new river-crossing.'
The new express bus service and cycle shuttle aim to provide more frequent transport options for locals, ensuring better connectivity for those in need. 'We also don't want residents on a low income, charities, and businesses to miss out on the discounts available if they use a car.'
