Vital safety upgrade at busy Elizabeth line station won't start for at least four years
Briefly

A significant delay in safety upgrades at Ealing Broadway station in London has sparked concerns over passenger safety. The upgrades, deemed necessary by local officials, won't be funded until 2029 at the earliest. In the meantime, interim measures have been put in place, including signage and extra staff presence to alert passengers to the dangerous 12-inch platform gap. While the mayor has confirmed plans for eventual restructuring of the platform, current resources are insufficient to expedite these much-needed improvements.
Ealing's local London Assembly member, Bassam Mahfouz, has called the situation unacceptable, warning that passengers' safety and dignity is at stake.
The mayor told the Labour assembly member: As owner of the track and station at Ealing Broadway, Network Rail has completed outline feasibility work on track lowering.
Network Rail has worked with MTR Elizabeth line on interim measures at the station, including the installation of a new barrier to enhance safety.
A spokeswoman for Network Rail stated they are developing options to improve safety at the station as part of a joint safety improvement plan.
