Krishna Vytelingum began 'Strangers on a Patio' in July 2021, transforming his Maryland garden into a vibrant space to combat loneliness and destigmatize depression post-Covid. By hosting comedy shows, he not only aims to entertain but also offers therapeutic benefits, sharing his journey from depression to empowerment through stand-up. Donations from these events support local charities. Over four years, the project has evolved from struggling to attract comedians to hosting popular shows, reflecting a growing community interest and engagement.
Part of the reason I've started doing stand-up comedy is because it's a form of therapy...the creative attempt to write a stand-up set.
When I started it, I had to make an effort to get comedians in and even had to pay some of them...it was quite difficult.
It makes me truly happy. The events have grown in quality and size over the four years of hosting.
...the events aim to destigmatize depression and bring people together after Covid.
