Plan for homes above Tube station approved
Briefly

Southwark councillors unanimously approved a new development plan for two high-rise buildings above the Southwark Tube station, which will include 44 council homes and 429 student apartments. The development features a nine-storey and a 15-storey building, with the former designated for council housing at social rent prices, while the latter will serve university students. The community-focused project also aims to integrate retail, café space, a garden, and recreational facilities. Despite support for affordable housing, local opposition leaders voiced concerns over the influx of students and lack of community consultation.
"I'm delighted this project to provide 44 much-needed council homes has the green light to move forward."
"The council has failed to consult residents on this change or provide the infrastructure we need to accommodate such a change."
