Dublin City Council is initiating a public consultation on proposed changes to Parliament Street aimed at promoting walking and cycling. The changes, set to take effect in late June, will allocate the street exclusively for non-motorized traffic for most of the day. Improvements to the street will include greening, seating, and enhancements to the public realm. This initiative follows previous successful measures to reduce vehicle traffic in the area, which improved bus journey times and overall urban experience, reflecting a commitment to a safer and more pedestrian-friendly city center.
The public consultation invites feedback from residents, businesses and the wider public on the proposed changes, which include new cycling routes and improved pedestrian spaces.
The move follows the success of the pedestrianisation of nearby Capel Street on the north side of the river, and the introduction of car restrictions along the Liffey quays last year.
