Ealing Council has authorized the construction of eight new flats on the site of a historic Victorian home that was demolished without permission in west London. The redevelopment plan includes rebuilding the structure to resemble the original, utilizing salvaged materials whenever possible. This decision comes after the site lay unused for six years, following the withdrawal of a previous planning application. The new design will maintain the historical facade while integrating some modern features at the rear to enhance residential privacy, aligning with conservation area regulations.
Ealing Council has granted permission for the redevelopment on Charlbury Grove on the condition that it is in keeping with the character of the area.
The council decided not to take any legal action because the new application proposed rebuilding the house in a similar form to replicate the former house, using salvaged material from it.
