Fionn Smith, a young boy, was involved in a hit-and-run accident while riding his bike home from nursery. His mother, Jessica, expressed frustration over the crash, believing it could have been prevented if a proposed Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) plan had been implemented. Following the incident, various individuals assisted them, and Jessica was able to report the incident to the police with evidence provided by a witness. The council stated that the LTN proposal is still under consideration, but Jessica remains concerned about the lack of urgency in ensuring public safety on local roads.
It made me angry because if that LTN had been in place, my son wouldn't have been hit by a car on his way home from nursery.
We had to cross Balmoral Road to get home and as we crossed the road, a car decided to cut in ahead of us and it hit him.
The council said that at no time has the proposed LTN been cancelled, but remains unclear on a timeframe for actions.
I'm asking for the council to revisit their plans and I'm asking what the solutions are to making our streets safer.
