More Met staff to strike in flexible working row
Briefly

The Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) is preparing for strike action by about 350 civilian employees at the Metropolitan Police due to a dispute over the requirement to return to office work. Union leaders argue that these employees are effective working remotely, as their roles are not public-facing. In the past month, a similar strike occurred, which highlights ongoing tensions about hybrid working conditions. The Metropolitan Police claims that they have engaged in discussions about the policy for over a year and assert that the new hybrid model aims to improve service delivery to the public.
PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote stated, "There is no reason why our highly skilled and hard-working members need to come into the office. They don't have public-facing jobs and have been working very efficiently from home."
A Met spokesman emphasized, "We have been engaging with our staff and trade unions for over a year on this policy, which is in line with many other organisations. Ultimately, this is about our commitment to delivering a better service for Londoners."
