At a public meeting at Queen's Crescent Community Centre, local resident groups voiced their objections to Mount Anvil's redevelopment plans for the former Bacton Low Rise estate, which aim to add 290 new homes and two towers up to 26 stories high. Concerns included possible overshadowing of views from Hampstead Heath, noise, and traffic impacts. Voices from the community warned of potential long-lasting effects on light rights and social issues stemming from overcrowding. The consensus was a call for more sustainable, medium-rise developments instead of tall, obstructive structures.
Joe Glasman from Malden Road Residents emphasized the importance of light, stating, 'We have a right to light. People who come to live here will inherit that right to light.'
Architect Alexander Smaga highlighted concerns regarding views from Hampstead Heath, stating, 'the proposed towers would impact all views from Hampstead Heath and Camden, particularly the listed view from Parliament Hill.'
