Met Police's new gang database still racist' for targeting young black Londoners, claims charity
Briefly

Scotland Yard's revised Violence Harm Assessment database has come under scrutiny from Amnesty International UK for allegedly perpetuating racial bias similar to the previous gangs matrix. With 66.5% of its 1,307 entries being black individuals, concerns have been raised that people might be added due to their location, associations, or even participation in drill rap. Critics argue this unfairly labels individuals as gang members, leading to wrongful stop-and-search incidents. The Met denies these accusations, asserting all entries are linked to violent offences. A report titled 'Automated Racism' highlights how policing practices may discriminate, challenging adherence to human rights standards.
We've had members who have been stopped and told: You've been stopped because you're on a database'. They don't know what database it is. I suppose that's the point of it - that you're not really meant to know how it's used.
The report claims that at least 33 UK forces using data and algorithms manage to code discrimination into policing, breaching human rights obligations.
