Mayor of London intervenes in rejected Paddington housing development
Briefly

A property development plan for student housing near Paddington station, which had previously been turned down by Westminster Council, is under review by the Mayor of London. The site, a Travis Perkins warehouse, faced local opposition over concerns about reduced daylight for nearby residential units. However, the Mayor highlights the development's potential positive impact in meeting London's strategic student accommodation needs and easing pressures in the rental market. If approved, the plans will also improve public access to previously inaccessible canal paths.
In a letter to Westminster council, the Mayor emphasized that the proposed building would greatly assist in meeting the strategic student accommodation needs identified in the London Plan, noting with the ongoing housing crisis, it’s critical to increase dedicated student housing.
The Mayor pointed out that failing to deliver the 605 student bed spaces has implications on the broader housing objectives set forth in the London Plan, and that such developments may alleviate pressure on the general rental market.
