A man has been arrested after an exhibition paying tribute to the lives of the Windrush generation was vandalised in south London. Police were called to Windrush Square in Brixton on July 3 at around 6:09am, where the exhibition had opened earlier in June 22.
The police launched an investigation after some of the 20 exhibits had been vandalised. A 24-year-old man was arrested on July 5 on suspicion of vandalism and remains in police custody.
Superintendent Gabriel Cameron stated that the incident is not being treated as a hate crime and local neighbourhood officers are available to address community concerns.
The force expressed that there will be further enquiries to establish the circumstances of the vandalism and sought to reassure the community following the incident.
