Lower Thames Crossing welcomed in Bexley but urgent need for DLR and Elizabeth Line
Briefly

The approval of the Lower Thames Crossing by the Secretary of State signals a significant step forward in addressing congestion at the Dartford Crossing. This 14-mile road link, featuring two tunnels under the Thames, will connect Tilbury in Essex to Gravesend in Kent. Bexley Council has voiced the importance of additional investments in transport infrastructure to maximize the area’s development potential. Councillor Baroness O'Neill emphasized the necessity for government clarity on funding and stressed the need for continued public transport improvements to foster further growth in the Thames Estuary.
The approval of the Lower Thames Crossing is a positive step forward for much-needed infrastructure improvements. However, we still need clarity on the funding model and assurances that the project will be delivered as planned.
To unlock the full potential of the Thames Estuary, we must see continued investment in public transport, including the long-overdue extension of the Elizabeth Line beyond Abbey Wood to Ebbsfleet.
Bexley is a key part of the Thames Estuary's growth corridor, with the potential to deliver much-needed housing and job opportunities but this is dependent on further transport infrastructure.
