London Roller Derby to lose home when venue closes
Briefly

Brent Council approved plans to close the Bridge Park Community Centre, a significant hub for community activities, including the London Roller Derby team. The center is set to close on July 31, pending government approval, as part of a redevelopment initiative worth £600 million aimed at transforming the area with housing and leisure facilities. Council members cited high repair costs and risks associated with the building's condition as primary reasons for the decision. Local community groups, including the roller derby team, face losing their training space, with advocates urging for its preservation.
"This is how fantastic our skaters are. We are going to be training our hearts out until the World Cup in July. Until you shut the doors, we are going to be training our hearts out in Bridge Park."
Neil Nerva, the council's cabinet member for leisure, stated that the repair option was not good value and the feasibility of repairs was questionable.
