Dockers Inn Ltd, a London pub, received a £20,000 fine for consistently playing loud pop music that disturbed local residents. The Environmental Protection Noise Team confirmed the excessive volume despite prior warnings from council officials, including an official notice under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The pub was convicted in absence in a court held on January 21, where it was fined £17,000, mandated to pay a £2,000 victim surcharge, and £1,299 in costs. Council officials emphasized their commitment to tackling noise disturbances in the community.
Despite several letters and visits from council officials and an Environmental Protection Act 1990 legal notice being served on the pub operators, the loud music noise continued.
We want Tower Hamlets to be a vibrant place to live, work and visit, but establishments which cause a nuisance to local residents will not be tolerated.
Dockers Inn Ltd were fined 17,000 and told to pay a victim surcharge of 2,000 and costs of 1,299.
I encourage anyone who is struggling with inconsiderate noise to report this to the council so we can look into it.
