Starting April 7, London will increase parking fines for the first time in over a decade, targeting anti-social driving. Fines for penalty charge notices will rise by £30, while costs for removing clamped vehicles will go up by £80. This decision comes as penalties issued increased by 70% in the past 15 years, with local councils emphasizing the need for higher fines to deter irresponsible parking and improve public safety on roads.
The changes, which will start on April 7, mean parking penalties at the higher level will increase by £30 to £160 or £140.
Boroughs have argued that increasing the cost of fines is necessary to ensure they 'remain effective deterrents' and any money raised will be 'reinvested in traffic and transport schemes'.
