"Ms Cox told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) that the initial contractor was dismissed by the council after installing windows over 3cm too small, and their successors had repeatedly made the problem worse. This included "deliberately knocking out bricks" from the wall to force in an oversized window, taking incorrect measurement errors and "botched" temporary fixes that have left the home colder than before."
"Despite having to organise various consultations with contractors herself, Charlie told the LDRS council officers had blamed her for the delays, claiming that she did not contact them or refused entry - which she disputes. 'Every time council officers agreed a certain contractor could do the job, we waited 6 months or more to hear back about when the works would begin - only to be told that they would need to send round more companies for new quotes,' she said."
""Needless to say we are freezing," she said. "There has never been a sense of urgency. The heating has also been broken and Camden have known about this for ages.""
Charlie Cox and her daughter live in an Edwardian-era council home in Camden and have waited six years for window repairs. Numerous contractors attended but no permanent fix was completed due to procurement failures and repeated measurement and installation errors. Contractors installed windows over 3cm too small, and successors worsened the situation by knocking out bricks to force oversized windows and applying botched temporary fixes. The heating has been broken for some time. Both occupants have health vulnerabilities, including severe asthma aggravated by damp and fungus on kitchen and bathroom walls. Council officers reportedly blamed the tenant for delays while long waits for new quotes continued.
