Health Secretary: 'I want hospitals to follow King George's example'
Briefly

Wes Streeting, MP for Ilford North, praised the urgent treatment centre at King George Hospital for its impactful role in expediting patient treatment. Managed by PELC, this facility significantly contributes to the local NHS's performance, helping BHRUT rank among the top 20 in A&E services nationwide. Approximately 70-80% of patients at A&E are now redirected through the treatment centre, allowing for more effective triage and streamlined care. Increased doctor staffing, supported by NHS funding, enhances service delivery and patient experience, prompting Streeting to advocate for this model across the UK.
It was great to see first-hand the difference that the urgent treatment centre is making to getting patients seen faster, triaged more effectively, and having faster access to the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
The improvements have been facilitated by an increase in the number of doctors at both sites after additional investment from NHS North East London.
It not only improves the patient's experience but eases the pressure on the emergency department at the same time.
