Fund set up to save working men's club hits target
Briefly

The Friends of Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club (FoBGWMC) have successfully raised over 14,000 in donations to save the venue from eviction. Facing a two-month notice to vacate in June 2024, supporters, including Equity, launched an online petition highlighting the club's significance in London’s LGBTQ+ culture. The raised funds will help finance a chartered survey and allow for a business plan to secure the venue's future with Tower Hamlets Council, aiming to prevent the potential loss of this historic and community-focused establishment.
"We’re going to keep the fundraiser open and rolling, because while we have surpassed our initial target, preserving this venue is about more than just money."
"The importance of this site cannot be overstated. It stands as a vital part of the cultural legacy and social fabric of London’s LGBTQ+ community."
