East London councillor who stood in Bangladesh election fails to win nomination
"I expressed my interest long ago I declared that I wasn't going to stand in the council election. So I was trying to go back home where I was born and raised to use my expertise and experience."
"I did not miss any of my duties. I did not miss my surgeries. I did not miss anything. I take my job seriously. I never, ever do anything to deprive my residents. They are the first priority."
Independent councillor Ohid Ahmed prioritized residents in his council ward and confirmed he will not stand for re-election in Tower Hamlets. He also confirmed he will not be a candidate in Bangladesh's upcoming general election after failing to win the Bangladesh Nationalist Party nomination for the Sylhet-6 constituency. Ahmed was elected as an Aspire party councillor before quitting to become an independent and had previously declared he would not stand again. Mile End councillor Sabina Khan confirmed she will not stand in the UK local elections; Khan was elected as Labour in 2022, later defected to Aspire, and missed more than half of her town hall meetings this year because she was out of the country.
