A survey from the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry reveals significant concerns among over 160 business leaders regarding the new immigration policies. Only 14% believe these policies will support economic growth, while 46% expect a reduction in legal immigration. A majority, 81%, highlight the importance of global talent access. Many firms report difficulties finding suitable local candidates. Desire for immigration reform includes easier access to visas for highly skilled workers, as well as calls for quicker, cheaper, and simplified visa processes. Confidence in government responsiveness to business needs is notably low at 69%.
A significant proportion of respondents, (69%) expressed a lack of confidence in the Government's willingness to listen to and address concerns from the business community when shaping immigration policy.
Four out of five firms (81%) said that access to global talent is important for both the London business community and the UK economy more broadly.
Almost half (46%) of businesses expect the new policies will lead to a reduction in legal immigration, a shift many fear will worsen labour shortages and restrict access to highly skilled international talent.
