'Annoyed' EastEnders fans slam BBC soap as characters 'disappearing for weeks'
Briefly

EastEnders fans have voiced their annoyance regarding characters disappearing from prominent storylines for weeks, disrupting narrative momentum. Recent conversations on Reddit highlight this issue, particularly with story arcs like those involving Lauren, Peter, and Jimmy, which fans believed were compelling but left unfinished. The discourse includes speculation about the reasoning behind this trend relating to show formats and past executive decisions. Some viewers believe this approach aims to enhance suspense and keep audiences engaged, while others suggest it is a longstanding characteristic of soap operas that may not change with new leadership.
They added: Just recently we've had the Lauren, Peter and Jimmy storyline, which was heating up, just for them to not be shown in around 2-3 weeks.
Some argued it was due to the style of ex-executive producer Chris Clenshaw and hope new boss Ben Wadey puts a stop to it.
This has always annoyed me. I assume it's to keep everyone on the edge of their seat and keep them watching.
Block storytelling? Deffo not a Clenshaw thing - it's been going on for years to some degree or another.
