Jarvis Cocker and Nick Banks, childhood friends from Sheffield, reflect on their musical journey while discussing Pulp's reunion to create new music after years. They formed Pulp in the late 1970s as an outlet for creativity during a time when music was less commercial. Their first studio album in decades, titled More, was crafted through a collaborative voting process among the band members, emphasizing the collective creativity that defines Pulp. Their experiences over the years allow them to appreciate the artistic process more deeply than ever before.
The idea of making new songs came because at some point we thought it might be fun to try it. The result, More, is a collection of songs chosen by popular vote among the musicians.
We presented several ideas, played them, then gave them scores and kept the highest-scoring ones. Those are the moments when creative things happen, and at their best, you make that creativity worthwhile and worth listening to.
