An electrical transformer fire at Aberdeen Place, Maida Vale, led to a massive response involving 15 fire engines and 100 firefighters on Tuesday morning. UK Power Networks reported that the fire was caused by faulty equipment but confirmed that power supplies remained unaffected. Residents reported waking up to terrifying sounds and smoke, resulting in the evacuation of around 100 people from a nearby block of flats. Residents expressed concern over the incident, highlighting the emotional toll it took on their community.
Fatima Bazzi, 71, who lives next to the substation, said: 'I wake up, I smell something wrong, I go to my sitting room and I see smoke.'
Alice Bazzi, 36, said: 'It's upsetting. It's sad that any flat, any of my neighbours have to lose any of their belongings because of a fault that's not their own.'
