"The chemistry on that tour, I hadn't anticipated; it really inspired me to keep the project going," reflects Dave Holland on the unexpected rapport built with his New Quartet.
"We love the conversation of the music, and the interactive aspect of it; it's the heart of everything we do," says Holland, highlighting the importance of collaboration and listening in jazz.
Holland’s legacy is deeply rooted, having emerged from the late-'60s Electric Miles and continuing with significant works like Conference of the Birds, showcasing his lasting influence.
"Surprisingly, Holland hasn't led a performance at Smoke until now, despite its prominent legacy and his past experiences as a sideman there," illustrating the significance of his debut.
