Krets, a new Norwegian folk label, debuts with 'Malmin,' an album reflecting the rugged cultural heritage of Rogaland through experimental folk music. Made by the duo Anders Hana and Olav Christer Rosseb, the album incorporates sounds from early-to-mid 20th-century recordings using traditional instruments like the harding fiddle and langeleik. Vocals by Ashild Vetrhus, who specializes in funeral singing, add emotional weight throughout. The nine tracks range from vibrant dances to soulful ballads, creating a captivating atmosphere that intentionally steps outside the bounds of traditional mood music, offering listeners a raw and profound experience.
The album captures the essence of ancient sounds while resonating deeply with the human experience, making for a daring musical exploration beyond comfort zones.
Using traditional instruments and techniques, Malmin creates a raw and evocative soundscape, merging folk roots with experimental elements that defy categorization.
