Famous pub and fringe theatre 'in safe hands' with new owners
Briefly

The Old Red Lion pub, a significant venue for theatre in London, is set to remain under the leadership of passionate theatre professionals. Damien Devine, who managed it for 25 years, has ensured a smooth transition to new owners who aim to maintain its historical integrity and vibrant theatre traditions. Artistic director Jack Robertson emphasizes the continuity of the pub theatre experience, with commitments to enhance production capacities while further supporting playwrights through initiatives like Freshfest. As a treasured cultural site since the 1400s, its future looks promising and secure.
"Damien changed the Old Red Lion so it's a theatre pub not a pub theatre, and it was sold as a package," he said. "The new owners are first and foremost theatre industry people who have done similar ventures in the past."
"While it has been for sale we have been soldiering through and generally it's been great and very resilient."
"They are looking at the future including plans to become more of a producing house - the theatre is definitely in safe hands."
