A fire in a three-storey residential block in Sydenham led to the rescue of two children and two adults by firefighters early on June 21. The blaze, which broke out in a first-floor flat, was reported at 12:46 am, with crews quickly mobilizing in response to multiple emergency calls. One child was rescued using a ladder, while others were evacuated through the internal staircase. All rescued individuals received medical treatment, benefiting from fire escape hoods introduced after the Grenfell Tower tragedy. The fire was contained by 2:05 am, and the cause is currently under investigation.
The swift response of the London Fire Brigade, who received multiple emergency calls, ensured that those trapped in the flat were rescued and treated promptly.
Fire escape hoods, which were introduced in 2018 after the Grenfell Tower fire, played a crucial role in the safe evacuation of the children and adults.
