This old-school trattoria in Bethnal Green is officially London's best new restaurant
"The Italian restaurant, which opened last month, has shot straight to the top of our ranking of the finest new places to eat in the capital. 'Tiella is what eating out is all about: the warmest of welcomes, a subtle dose of glamour, incredible food, and the vague sense that nothing much else matters beyond the restaurant's front door,' reads the review. 'A triumph.'"
"Tiella began life as a kitchen residency at The Compton Arms in Islington, which is also where Four Legs - the chefs who went on to open The Plimsoll and Tollington's in Finsbury Park - started their journey. It's the project of Italian-born, New Zealand-raised chef Dara Klein, who previously worked at nearby Brawn, as well as Sager and Wilde and (another of our favourite Italian restaurants in London )."
Tiella opened in Bethnal Green last month, occupying a revamped 175-year-old pub formerly called The Globe at 109 Columbia Road. The restaurant immediately took top place in a list of the 20 best new restaurants in London. Italian-born, New Zealand–raised chef Dara Klein leads the project, after a kitchen residency at The Compton Arms and stints at Brawn, Sager and Wilde. The menu focuses on regional Italian classics, including chicken Milanese, Venetian anchovies in saor, and passatelli in brodo from Emilia Romagna. Tiella operates Wednesday to Sunday and pairs a warm welcome and subtle glamour with highly praised food.
