Part of Borough Market is finally being pedestrianised
Briefly

Borough Market, a leading food market in London, plans to enhance pedestrian safety by restricting vehicle access to Bedale Street. The Southwark Council will install a barrier to limit traffic during peak hours, addressing the alarming 800 'near misses' between pedestrians and vehicles each week. The new measures will allow only emergency vehicles and residents during specified times. Council officials express commitment to ensuring safety while balancing market accessibility, although they have faced criticism for delays in implementing these safety measures.
The barrier will close off Bedale Street to through traffic between 10am and 5pm on weekdays and 9am and 5pm at weekends.
This temporary barrier will protect people walking, reduce traffic, and help us test a better long-term solution for access and safety in the area.
