Landy's Lemon Meringue installation at East Bank brings back Cockney Rhyming slang, a codified language signifying group affiliation and identity. The signs serve as 'archaeological artefacts' on the new site, reminiscent of hieroglyphics or puzzles to solve.
By using 1980s shop aesthetics and fluorescent signs, Landy creates a visual language reminiscent of his upbringing in the East End. The signs aim to evoke memories of street trading and economic struggles from the past.
