The Metropolitan Police reported a total of three stabbings during the Notting Hill Carnival, including one woman in life-threatening condition and two other male victims with varying injuries.
Despite the joyful atmosphere, the police faced challenges with 90 arrests made for various crimes, highlighting the reality of violence that can overshadow large celebrations.
A police spokesperson noted, 'Hundreds of thousands of people came to Notting Hill Carnival... our officers have been on duty working to keep them safe... Regrettably, a minority came to commit crime and engage in violence.'
As part of the carnival's security measures, the police were granted greater search powers to avert further violence, emphasizing the need for safety at such large gatherings.
