Violent clashes took place outside a mosque in Southport after a knife attack left three young girls dead, incited by online misinformation linking the attacker to Islam.
Merseyside Police attributed the disturbances to English Defence League (EDL) supporters with a strong social media presence, formerly led by Tommy Robinson, known for anti-Islam activities.
