SES Water is advising residents in Epsom and parts of south London to conserve water due to a fault at its Cheam treatment works affecting around 4,000 homes. Four bottled water stations have been established for those impacted, but some residents experienced a complete loss of supply.
A spokesperson from SES Water indicated that following the detection of the fault, the alternative supply plan was employed, but the capacity could not meet the existing demand, leading to temporary outages for several customers, particularly in areas like Sutton and Morden.
Although water supplies are beginning to stabilize, SES Water urges customers to restrict their usage to help maintain lower storage levels until the issue is fully resolved. Residents are also advised that the water may appear cloudy initially, but this can be resolved by running the cold tap.
Local MP Luke Taylor expressed frustration with the water supply situation, emphasizing the need for better provisions, including additional bottled water stations, as multiple schools in the Sutton area were forced to close due to the ongoing water issues.
