UK weather: Thunderstorms to bring eight hours of heavy rain with flooding risk for hundreds, Met Office warns

The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for much of southern England, predicting up to eight hours of rain, affecting commuter regions.

Forecasters anticipate that some areas may receive 20-30mm of rain within 2-3 hours, with a small possibility of reaching 40mm in localized regions.

24 flood alerts are currently in place across England with four areas expected to experience flooding, particularly in southern England and parts of Wales.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms will likely clear overnight into Tuesday, but Monday will see variable cloud, sunny spells, and widespread heavy showers developing.
